Polka-Dotted Hoodie Dresses

This is the Mallory Dress from Love Notions Patterns… isn’t it cute!

It has a hoodie, a crossed bodice, and a fun twirly circle skirt. You can make the skirt short or long, and the sleeves can be made in 3 different lengths.  The hood can be sewn directly together or use another fabric to add bias tape around the hood and across the top. You can mix and match the knit fabrics to create a simple look or a crazy look.

AND, best of all, there are pockets!!!

The dress comes in sizes 12mth to size 14 to fit all your little girls even those ‘tween girls.

The pattern is well written with good pictures that are easy to follow. The pieces print as layers so you can select the size you want and only print those pages.

I made 2 Mallory dresses – one for my ‘tween niece and the other for my almost-5 daughter.

Since my stash of knit fabric is slim, and my local store selection is even slimmer, I had to get creative with my fabric choices.  I selected this cool knit fabric with white polka dots that had just arrived at Jo-ann’s Fabric store. It is a light weight, super stretchy, fashion knit that coordinated nicely with the medium weight interlock knit fabric in bright blue for my niece – her favorite color, and hot pink for my daughter – her favorite color.

The dresses stitched up DARLING!  and the girls are happy to have coordinating outfits. It’s not easy to find styles that are appropriate for a ‘tween and a 5 year old that are liked by both girls, but this hoodie dress pattern meets that tough criteria.  And the coordinating fabrics, while matching, but not being the exact same fit the girl’s differing criteria too.

On the tween dress, I suggest tacking down the crossover right in the center. This will prevent any accidental gapping.  And on the girl’s dress, I suggest under-shorts… the pockets and the circle skirt make flipping that skirt up while twirling with hands in the pockets ALOT of fun! better keep those undies covered.

Overall, I am happy with the pattern, liked working with the Love Notions pattern team, and proud of the girl’s dresses.
