I am here today to show off the gorgeous Secret Garden Dress pattern by E+M Patterns, and tutorial by Sprouting JubeJube. The dress features a beautiful flounce at the back, which creates a pretty bow or a gorgeous butterfly.
My daughter loves the swirl-factor of the dress!
This is a perfect dress for a special occasion, for the holidays (imagine it in Christmas prints!), and just for swirling around house, as my daughter did all-day-yesterday. The dress is sized for girls 2-10, and works with light to medium weight woven fabrics.
For the dress, I pulled from my fabric stash to coordinate the light colored print with red, blue, and yellow windmills with a vibrant red solid, all purchases from Joann’s sometime ago. The bow flounce is made up a yellow print from a Moda collection. I accented with packaged red piping around the neck, arms, and edge of the flounce skirt.
The tutorial is well written with pictures to demo the steps. There are 2 options, a simple dress with ribbon at the waist, and a twirly-flouncy option. In my opinion this is an intermediate sewing exercise due to the invisible zipper on the side. And I added the additional challenge with the piping – I had to complete several seams by hand to get the piping to feed in correctly.

The outcome is a fun dress that I am certainly proud of…
