I have perfected Hot Brandy Wine into a perfect potion for chilly gray days here in the Pacific NW. I am sure it is perfect for your wintery weather too… or, if you are lucky enough to be a warm climate in January, save this recipe for your blustery days ahead.
Hot Brandy Wine is a simple concoction to make.
First, assemble your ingredients and put out a large pot on the stove top.
1 magnum-size (750ml) bottle of Dry Red Wine
10 ounces Brandy
1/2 cup Honey
1/2 cup Sugar
1 large Orange, quartered & sliced & squeezed
3 sticks Cinnamon
3 whole Star Anise
3 whole Cloves
Mix the Wine, Brandy, Honey, and Sugar in the large pot over low heat. Squeeze the Orange pieces into the pot, and then drop them in. Add the Cinnamon, Star Anise, and Cloves. Mix it up, and warm it on low to medium heat for 15 minutes.
Serve in mugs with a ladle.
(you can strain the hot wine into a pitcher, but ours never makes it that far… we just serve around the spices and oranges)
We have taken the hot wine drink to several holiday gatherings, and it is a favorite!
You can also keep warm in a crock pot, or strain it and store in a large thermos.
Another tip – you don’t need to purchase fancy wine or brandy to make fabulous hot wine.
I hope you will try my perfect Hot Brandy Wine… and stay warm!
