It’s my turn on the Holiday Cutout Blog Tour, and I am here to show off a top ready for Autumn 2015. It’s a Pumpkin Patch Top stitched up from the Bella Sunshine Designs pattern.
The Holiday Cutout Dress & Top is packed full of options. Different cutouts, different lengths, and an optional appliqué give you the opportunity to make it unique every time you sew it. With the different cutouts available in various sizes, you can make one for every one of your favorite holidays. The pattern includes cutouts featuring a heart, shamrock, bunny, star, pumpkin, and tree. And I can think of several other cutouts to decorate this top… like a bow to dress it up, an apple for the first day of school, a kitty or puppy just to be sweet, a cross for Sunday church, a flower to be pretty, or a fish, a duck, a butterfly, or maybe even a little bird. The technique to stitch up the back around the cutout design, make the cut out, and then flip the bodice right side out is super simple to follow in the pattern. (actually, it’s kinda like magic!) For the blog tour, I selected the pumpkin! My favorite season is Autumn. I had an awesome orange & blue plaid taffeta remnant. And the idea of being 2 seasons ahead for a holiday outfit makes me super happy. SO… it was all about the pumpkin. The layered PDF Pattern comes in sizes 12 months to 10 for those little girls and tween girls and all the in between girls. It is a simple top or dress to make. It makes a good beginner pattern if you pick a cutout with few corners. It is very versatile and easy to embellish with the cutouts & appliqué, or even add some ruffles or trim. I made the top for my 5 year old daughter. The bodice is in a navy fabric trimmed in bias made from the aforementioned orange & blue plaid taffeta remnant. I cut out the medium size pumpkin on the back bodice. I appliquéd a large size pumpkin in a swirly green fabric piece and a small size pumpkin in an order fabric piece both from my stash drawer. I love the scrappy pumpkins on the front skirt edged in a navy appliqué stitch. Matched with jeans, an orange long sleeve shirt, and her brown boots, my girl made some cute modeling pictures to help me show off the Pumpkin Patch Top.
