Summer Tops for Girls & Boys

{Traveller Tee & Seashore Top by Gracious Threads}

After sewing up kids’ shorts on the Canadian Pattern Designer Blog Tour (see HERE), the girl & boy needed summer tops to match the summer shorts.  I went looking for patterns by a Canadian Designer to stick with the theme (i love to be inspired by a theme), patterns that were casual and comfy for frequent summertime wearing, and patterns that were new to me.  The Gracious Threads patterns fit the qualifications!  It was the Traveller Tee for the boy, and the Seashore Top for the girl!

The Traveller Tee pattern was introduced by the e-zine One Thimble – Issue 4 in August 2014, and is also available as a single pattern in the Gracious Threads collection.  I liked the tee shirt style immediately, but had other projects on the machine at this time last year, and didn’t get the pattern until now to go with the boy’s shorts.  It was the perfect opportunity to make a tee shirt that matched the shorts and coordinated with the girl’s outfit.  Using navy, turquoise, and moss green knit fabric from Jo-ann, I color-blocked a size 7 tee.  The result looked great on the boy and coordinated nicely with fabrics in the girl’s outfit.  And the boy added the plaid fedora hat to complete the stylish look!

The Seashore Dress, Tunic, and Top pattern, also by Gracious Threads, in the Riley Blake Country Girls fabric – see the cute little ducks waddling across the top – was the perfect coordinate for the girl’s shorts and for the boy’s outfit.  The pattern calls for flutter sleeves that are so cute, but I opted to make the top sleeveless and buttoning on both shoulders.  The buttons are covered in the blue fabric that matches the blue piping that I made for the neckline and bodice.  I like the easy swing of the top.  My girl likes the ‘swirl’ of it.

Gracious Threads patterns are some of my favorites.  I like that there are both knit fabrics and woven fabric options.  Jess puts a lot of detail into her designs such as the latest Everest Pants pattern with the top-stitching and paneling details – see HERE and HERE.  The Traveller Tee pattern is a simple sew up to make a comfy tee shirt for both boys and girls with great color blocking options.  The Seashore pattern is one of her early patterns in the collection.  While the extra details and finishing steps are basic in this pattern, the dress or tunic or top produced is good quality and comfortable for the girls.  I enjoy sewing the Gracious Threads patterns and enjoy following Jess’s blog as well.
